Born as the eldest son of a farm family in Hongseong-gun, Chungcheongnam-do in December 1932, he graduated from the Law School of Seoul National University and worked as a reporter for the JoongAng Ilbo and Segye Ilbo for over two years, with a sense of duty to do something for the family, society, and even the country. In October 1958, when the scars of Korean War were not yet gone, he decided to study abroad in the United States. He completed his master's degree in public administration and political science at Fresno State University in California and the University of San Francisco (USF) in the United States for about 10 years until 1967. At that time, Hyundai Motor Company was formed and Chairman Chung Ju-young participated, and he began to develop an appreciation for the automobile industry in his home country, becoming an unsung hero who created the early 'Pony' myth.
Afterwards, served as senior vice president of Hyundai Motor Company and president of Hyundai Corporation, in August 1981, he took office as president of DY Deokyang, a Korean automobile He entered the auto components industry, which is the cornerstone of industrial development, and devoted himself to efficient operation system and unique technology development with excellent leadership for about 25 years until his death in August 2006, building competitiveness and raising the company to the ranks of world's leading small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
